Itinerary
Day 1. – Bucharest
Arrival at Otopeni International Airport, meet your guide, transfer and accommodation at the hotel. Panoramic tour on the way to hotel. After check in - small walk in the old city center before dinner. Dinner and overnight in Bucharest.
Day 2. Bucharest - Piatra Neamt
Buffet breakfast. We begin with the visit of the city of Bucharest: Constitution Square, Revolution Square, Romanian Atheneum, Victory Square, the Arch of the Triumph and Village Museum. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon departure to the town of Piatra Neamt, via Marasesti. In Marasesti we will visit the WWI Marasesti Mausoleum, the largest Romanian memorial, where rests more than 5,000 soldiers who have struggled against Germany in the First World War. In the afternoon - arrival in the city of Piatra Neamt, called "Sinaia of Moldova". Piatra Neamt is one of the oldest Romanian settlements , due that its history dates back to prehistoric times.
Day 3. Piatra Neamt – Moldovita – Sucevita - Marginea - Humor
Buffet breakfast. Drive to the region of Moldavia, one of the most representative tourist regions of Romania. The monasteries of Voronet, Sucevita, Moldovita and Humor, with its frescoes painted both inside and outside, are a legacy of Byzantine art in the world, comparable to those of Cappadocia, Mistra or Meteoras, unique in Europe, which is why they have been declared UNESCO World Heritage. Initially, these monasteries had a defense role, but after painting have become a true Bible in pictures, for people that do not sap people literate. The first visit is Moldovita Monastery, built in 1532 by Petru Rares. Painted both outside and inside, worn as dominant color the sun yellow. Lunch in a tourist guest house, with traditional food of the region of Bucovina. We continue with the visit at the newest painted monastery leading Moldovan style, created at the time of the famous Moldovan military leader Stephen the Great, the Fortified Monastery Sucevita, whose exterior paintings date from 1596 and where the predominant color is green. We continue with a visit to the famous Black Ceramic Factory Marginea where we will see a practical demonstration of the manual production of this famous black pottery. We continue our journey and visited the Humor Monastery, one of the most beautiful monasteries of Bucovina and Voronet Monastery, built in 1488 by the renowned warlord Moldovan - Stephen the Great. This monastery is known under the name Sistine Chapel of the East and is famous throughout the world for its dominant color - blue, contained in the catalogs of UNESCO together with the green of Veronese and red of Titian. In the afternoon - arrival in the city of Gura Humorullui. Dinner and overnight at a local hotel.
Day 4. Gura Humorului – Tihuta Pass – Bistrita – Targu Mures
Buffet breakfast. We continue our route and headed to the famous region of Transylvania, across Carpathian by Tihuta Pass. We'll pause here to admire the wonderful step of the Carpathians, located more than 1200 meters high. Next we headed to the city of Bistrita Nasaud where we have lunch at the Golden Crown Hotel, starting point from the famous novel by Bram Stoker - Dracula. n the afternoon arrival in the beautiful city of Targu Mures, called the City of Roses, where we take a city sightseeing tour, With The Orthodox Cathedral, the Palace Teleki, Dramatic Theatre, Catholic Church, Palace of Culture, Town Hall and Prefecture. Dinner and overnight at a local hotel in Targu Mures.
Day 5. Targu Mures – Sighisoara – Sibiu
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Sighisoara, one of the few Medieval inhabited citadel, UNESCO Heritage today and birthplace of the famous Vlad Tepes, Prince of Wallachia, who inspired the figure of Dracula in Bram Stoker's novel. Visit the Clock Tower which houses inside the Museum of History of the city of Sighisoara, the Medieval Weapons Museum, Torture Chamber as the birthplace of Dracula now a famous restaurant where we have lunch. Free time to explore and get to know this beautiful citadel. In the afternoon - arrival in the city that best preserves its medieval layout - Sibiu. Traditional dinner in the village of Sibiel, bio-based products and drinks included in the menu (wine and spirits). Overnight in Sibiu.
Day 6. Sibiu – Brasov – Bran - Sinaia
Buffet breakfast. We begin with the visit of this beautiful city of Sibiu, elected in 2007 as European Cultural Capital. Sibiu (Hermannstadt in German) was the largest and wealthiest of the seven walled citadels* built in the 12th century by German settlers known as Transylvanian Saxons. The riches amassed by its guilds paid for the construction of both impressive buildings and the fortifications required to protect them. Sibiu’s Old Town retains the grandeur of its earlier days when rich and powerful guilds dominated regional trade. Like Sighisoara and Brasov, it has a distinctly Germanic feeling. Sections of the medieval wall still guard the historic area, where narrow streets pass steep-roofed 17th century buildings with gable overhangs before opening into vast, church-dominated squares such as Great Square and Little Square. Sibiu is a pedestrian-friendly city with two easily accessible levels: the Upper town, home to most of Sibiu's historic sight, and the Lower town, lined with colorful houses on cobblestone streets and bounded by imposing city walls and defense towers overlooking the river Cibin. Traditionally, the Upper town was the wealthier part and commercial outlet, while the Lower town served as the manufacturing area. The historical center includes the Great Square, Huet Square, the beautiful Passage of Steps connecting the upper town to the lower town, the well-known Bridge of Lies, Goldsmiths’ Square and the Small Square. The seven walled citadels populated by the Saxons of Transylvania were known in German as the Siebenburgen. After visiting Sibiu, we will drive toward the city of Brasov, where we take a panoramic tour of the city: Schei Gate, Synagogue, St. Ecaterina Gate, Yarn Street, Council Square, Council Tower as the most important Gothic monument in Romania, the famous Black Church. We will leave Brasov and drive out towards the village of Bran, where we visit Bran Castle, known also under the name of Dracula's castle, built between 1377-1382, by the Teutonic knights on top of a large rock, with the paper, the defense and the Control the most important commercial route which linked in the Middle Ages, the ancient regions of Wallachia and Transylvania. But the castle owes its fame to the legend of Vlad Tepes - the bloodthirsty Dracula. For Romanians is famous due to the Queen Mary, the wife of the second King of Romania, Ferdinand, was staying in the summer in this castle along with their children. Lunch at local restaurant. After the lunch we head towards Sinaia resort, called "Pearl of the Carpathians". Dinner and overnight in Sinaia.
Day 7. Sinaia – Bucharest – Veliko Tarnovo.
Buffet breakfast. We begin the day with the visit of the tourist objectives from Sinaia station, called "Pearl of the Carpathians" with: Sinaia Monastery, built by Prince Michael Cantacuzino after a visit to Mount Sinai. The architecture of this monastery has to do with the Church of Santa Catalina, located on Mount Sinai. We have to mention that has been the first building in this part of the Carpathians, giving name to the station. We continue with the visit of Peles Palace, built by the first representative of the Romanian monarchy - Carol I, a member of the Hohenzollern family Zigmaringen. Then we headed to Bucharest. Lunch at a local restaurant. Next we headed Bulgaria. Border procedures, we crossed the famous river Danube, across the bridge "Prietenia" (friendship). In the afternoon - arrival in the former Bulgarian Capital of Veliko Tarnovo. A short walk in the citadel, before dinner. Dinner and overnight in Veliko Tarnovo.
Day 8 Veliko Tarnovo – Kazanlak - Plovdiv
Buffet breakfast. We started with a visit to the city of Veliko Tarnovo, the ancient capital of Bulgaria. The city has grown in the National Revival period. In fact in this city has been written the Constitution of Bulgaria, after the departure of the Turks. The aspect of the city is a point of attraction for any visitor, with its streets one below the other, with its hills and Trapezita and Tarevet, with the beautiful gorge Iantra, all together form one of the most beautiful views of Bulgaria. Tarevet is a natural fortress, which has been fortified throughout time by Thracians, Romans, Byzantines, constituting one of the most attractive tourist objectives in Bulgaria. We continued our path toward village - museum - Arbanasi, where we visit the House Konstantilieva and the Church of the Nativity, which has walls decorated with authentic works of art. Lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we went towards the city of Kazanlak, to visit the Ethnographic Museum in outdoor - Etara, we can admire the architecture, the lifestyle and economic past of Gabrovo region during the Renaissance. We cross the Balkans by the Shipka Pass, famous for their historical significance. We stop to visit the Shipka Memorial Church. In the afternoon arrival in the city of Plovdiv. Dinner at a local restaurant. Dinner and accommodation in Plovdiv.
Day 9 Plovdiv – Sofia
Buffet breakfast. We started with a visit to the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second largest city after the capital of Bulgaria – Sofia and the oldest city in Bulgaria. Is older that Rome, Athens and Constantinople. The name Plovdiv appears first time in documents in the 15th century and has been preserved until today.Visit the ancient Plovdiv, placed between the hills Nebbet, Bounardizhika and Sabat Tepe. Here you can admire Renaissance houses and old ruins. The influence of European architectural styles can be seen in the architecture of these homes. Then visit the Roman Theatre, Konstantin and Elena Church and the Roman Stadium. Transfer to Sofia. Dinner and accommodation in Sofia.
Day 10 Sofia – Rila - Sofia
Buffet breakfast. We started the tour of the city of Sofia with: the largest cathedral and one of the most beautiful in the Balkan Peninsula, Alexander Nevsky, with icons, frescoes and special architecture. The cathedral is built in neo-Byzantine style. The interior is decorated with marble, onyx, alabaster. As the collection of icons is one of the most valuable in the world. The cathedral has been built to celebrate the victory in the War of Independence against the Turks (1877-1878). We continue our tour of Sofia with Santa Sofia Church - which gave its name to the city, St. George Rotunda, Russian Church St. Nicolas, the Palace of Culture, the National Theatre. We continue our tour And we went out to the Rila monastery, built in the heart of a mountain of thick vegetation. Founded in the tenth century, the Rila Monastery, is listed as the most important cultural monument, historical and architectural from Bulgaria and Southern Europe. Its founder was the hermit Ivan Rila. The monastery has five domes, three altars and two chapels. The most valuable object of this monastery is the iconostasis with gold plating. The Rila Monastery Museum is known worldwide because among its valuable pieces has Rafail's Cross, a cross made of a single piece of wood with the dimensions 81 x 43 cm. The monk who has made this cross and what I paint over it 104 religious scenes and 650 miniature figures and letters name was Rafail. He has worked for 12 years to make a true work of art. After finishing the work, the monk became blind. After the visit of the monastery, we have lunch in a local restaurant in Rila, next to the monastery. In the afternoon we return to Sofia. Day 11 Sofia
