Painted Monasteries in Bucovina

Itinerary

• Day 1. Bucharest - Brasov

  Arrival at Otopeni airport. Meeting with the guide. Transfer to Brasov. On the way we will visit the Prahova Valley mountain resorts. Once arrived in Brasov, we will accommodate in a 4* hotel. Before dinner we will have a guided walk tour of the city center. Dinner and accommodation in Brasov.

• Day 2. Brasov - Targu Neamt

  Buffet breakfast at Hotel. We start our first day of the program in the monasteries region. On the way we will cross spectacular landscapes: the Red Lake, Bicaz Gorges, as well as the resorts along Olt River. After lunch we will visit the first Moldavian monastery: Bistrita, and a beautiful mountain city - Piatra Neamt. Before evening, another two monasteries will be visited: Agapia and Varatec. In the evening we will arrive in Targu Neamt. Dinner and accommodation in Targu Neamt or Piatra Neamt.

• Day 3. Targu Neamt - Gura Humorului

  Buffet breakfast at Hotel. In the morning we will visit Neamt Fortress - one of the most important fortress in the region. We will also visit the memorial house Ion Creanga - the Romanian writer who described the traditional local childhood in humorist stories. We leave the beautiful Targu Neamt city for visiting Neamt Monastery - the most important in terms of hierarchy, as here it is a monk school. Nearby, we will find a buffalo reserve, where we can admire those rare but proud animals. In the same Vanatori Natural Park we will visit another monastery - Secu. In the afternoon we will visit another UNESCO monastery - Probota. In the evening we will head toward Northern Bucovina, for visiting other monasteries. We will accommodate and have dinner in Gura Humorului.

• Day 4. Gura Humorului

  Buffet breakfast at Hotel. Today program includes lot of objectives, so we expect to end the trip late in the evening. in the first part of the day we will visit the salted mine of Cacica. Then, we will pass Arbore Monastery, included in UNESCO world heritage list. After lunch, we will visit a well known village for its specific craft work - the black ceramic objects. In the afternoon we will visit Sucevita and Moldovita Monasteries and we will pass a beautifull landscape at 1,100 m altitude. Before our return at Gura Humorului, we will also visit Voronet Monastery - well known for its specific blue color of the exterior walls. In the evening we will return for dinner at the Hotel.

• Day 5. Gura Humorului

  After a buffet breakfast we will continue our trip in Suceava county for visiting the most important monasteries in the area. In the morning we will visit Humor Monastery, which has a unique architecture. Before lunch we will visit Suceava city - the most important city in the region, and the ruins of the former capital of Moldova. After lunch we are heading Patrauti for visiting another UNESCO world heritage monastery. Before returning to Gura Humor we will visit the final two objectives of our tour: Putna and Radauti Monasteries. In Gura Humorului we will have a fare well dinner at the Hotel.

• Day 6. Gura Humorului - Bucharest

  Buffet breakfast at the Hotel. Today we are returning to Bucharest. On the way we will pass the cities of Bacau, Roman and Targu Secuiesc, as well as the resorts along Prahova Valey. In Bucharest, depending on the participants' schedule, you can have a city tour or another Romania Travel program in the city or you will be driven to the airport or hotel.
